Byron doesn't astral project, he might understand it theoretically but until you've separated your consciousness from your body and left both extremely vulnerable, it's hard to grasp.
I project onto the spirit plane, the afterlife. The longer you keep the two parts of yourself separate the greater the chance of getting trapped there if your physical body dies, or putting yourself into a coma like state where they remain separated. In my case, it also means if I'm not careful my body is open for possession.
It's subjective, more concepts than form. The plane itself to me is like a void that holds everyone else's afterlife. I can go to these...rooms almost, but it takes a lot of concentration and time and is therefore extremely dangerous, so I mostly access the spirits in that void when I do project or bridge.
To me, it sounds like you were on another plane, likely liminal space, a place of transition.
Do you ever visit people you kn[...] Interesting. I've thought about this a lot, collecting haunted dolls. I've always wondered if they're missing out on something bigger. [...] No helping a spirit that doesn't want to help itself, though.
Preferably. I could just never use it, but it seems like a waste of a reward.
Do you have this strange uncontrollable compulsion to just be a dick about Byron?
I'm sorry, you what? [...] But yes, it is unfortunate. In some cases spirits are bound and trapped rather than active in the possession. I try to help where I can, but like you said, not everything is so cut and dry, not everyone wants to move on.
Alright, we should meet. Is once a week too much or too little?
He's also a dick. So are you, for the record. [...] But I think we've come to an understanding, for whatever it's worth.
Collect haunted dolls. I have a couple dozen. I've already had them assessed by various professionals, but if you want to try to coax any of them into moving on I'm sure my roommate would appreciate it.
How long will it take for me to master the skill if we meet once a week, do you think?
I'm very much aware, but I also make some effort at being polite and professional upfront.
Why the interest in haunted dolls exactly? Are you sure they're n
I'm not sure, I'll have to see what we're working with. I don't think anyone truly masters anything, even with a lifetime of study. Let's just get you below 12 hours right now.
If my greatest sin is being a little rude to my coworkers I think Iβm doing just fine.
My sister bought me one for my fifteenth birthday. I have a lot of money and unfettered internet access. This is not the worst thing I could be doing with my time.

12 hours is a long time without proper training.

I donβt think I was in the afterlife, but I guess I canβt know for sure. [...] What is it like there?
I would have loved to stop astral projecting after the first thirty minutes, believe me. I havenβt tried again since.

Would you like to learn how to control it?

[...] I got stuck in the astral plane the other night, by the way. Unrelated.
Adrian/Velvet
Who or what trapped you on the astral plane?
Adrian/Velvet
Byron gave me a new magical ability. It was a reward for exceptional performance. But I don't have very good control over it yet.
Adrian/Velvet
Right. You're sure it wasn't secretly an assassination attempt?
Adrian/Velvet
Byron does not want to kill me.
Adrian/Velvet
Sadly, you're right. He's far too spineless for that.
Adrian/Velvet
Anyway, Broderick is going to teach me to control it, I think. It'll be useful if it isn't life-threatening.
Adrian/Velvet
Try not to die, please. How did you get unstuck from the astral plane last night?
Adrian/Velvet
I didn't do anything. I waited it out. After awhile I [...] fell asleep? Sort of. It's hard to explain.
