It's the Saturday evening before the most romantic Wednesday of the year (Valentine's Day), and everyone in the Adventure Society has been invited to Prom! Although advertising for this event was largely word-of-mouth, everyone receives a customized invitation card on Friday evening informing them of the location (the gymnasium) and time (doors at seven pm). The dress code is also reiterated on the invitation: gowns and tuxes, please!

Upon arriving to the dance, characters will find the vibe and theming is vaguely eighties/aughties inspired, although there are influences from other eras in history here and there as well. Birdie has decked the gymnasium out in tinsel, mylar balloons, and disco balls. A few smaller side areas are available if you want a moment away from the hustle and bustle of the dance.

Throughout the evening, Birdie is flitting around and trying to convince people to play the part of lovesick teenagers at prom as thoroughly as they can. Please ask a wallflower to dance! Please make a dramatic confession or gaze into someone's eyes as you slow dance to Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer. She's looking to make a few formative memories this evening, and she thinks you should be too.

Additionally, despite her big talk, Birdie appears to have failed to hire bouncers for the event, and anyone will be able to get in regardless of what they're wearing.

PROM COURT

In the entryway, there is a large and elaborately glitter-glued corkboard with frames for 12 polaroid pictures. There are a handful of polaroid cameras laying around the dance. Anyone whose photograph makes it way into one of these slots is a Prom Nominee for the evening.

Beneath the corkboard, there's a little ballot box you can submit hand-written notes into to cast your vote for Prom King and Prom Queen, but the complete lack of a verification system means that it would be easy to stuff the ballot box.

OOCly, Prom Court nominees are on a volunteer basis. I've included 12 spots for now, but if they fill up quickly I might add some additional ones, so please feel free to grab them for your character! Sometime this weekend I will randomly roll winners for the titles of king, queen, prince, and princess.

To grab one of these slots, leave a top-level comment with your character's name here. Anyone can feel free to leave little notes underneath these comments with what they wrote on their voting slips for that character.

REFRESHMENTS

On the menu for the evening are cupcakes, chocolate-covered strawberries, bonbons, and candy-coated pretzel sticks, which are the only thing remotely approaching a savory item.

There are several self-serve punch bowls, all of which are spiked (though not with alcohol). These delightful fruit juice mixtures will impart a silly minor magical effect on anyone who drinks from them: one is shimmering with pixie dust which will cause you to float pleasantly a few feet above the ground, one causes you to compulsively tap dance for a few minutes, one gives you a HEARTY dose of liquid courage, and one puts a pixie-jinx on you which causes you to become wildly unlucky for a bit.

The identical twin spriggans who are tending the open bar, which is serving various prohibition era cocktails, are checking IDs and refuse to serve Bracken Hemming categorically, although they don't seem to understand why they've been given this directive. Some kind of slight against the organizer of the event, sounds like? Weird. They also deny Briar Hemming service, claiming to be unable to tell them apart.

AROUND THE DANCE

The Prom is being held in a gymnasium in headquarters, highly reminiscent of a 1950s high school. While this might be used for recreation on off-days, right now it's the central hub of the dance. Several adjoining rooms have also been befitted for dance activities.

THE DANCEFLOOR

A lacquered wood basketball court with a small stage at the head of it, hosting a faun friend of Birdie's who is playing DJ for the evening. There's soft instrumental music playing for the first hour or so of the dance before the dancefloor opens at 8pm. Music will play through midnight for all your Cinderella moments. The dancefloor is littered with balloons and occasional flurries of confetti are magically conjured every fifteen minutes or so, resulting in considerable buildup of glitter and streamers by the end of the dance.

REFRESHMENTS TABLE

Situated at the back of the gymnasium, the snacks and punch bowls are self-serve and the open bar has a pair of ancient spriggans (also longtime friends of Birdie's) serving as bartenders. They have the general disposition of very small ents and speak and move unbearably slowly.

BEANBAG LOUNGE

To the east side of the gym, there's a private room which is furnished like a 1970s basement with burnt orange shag carpet, wood paneling, and a functional foosball table. There's a CRT television with a VHS player which screens The Princess Bride, Mystic Pizza, and Dirty Dancing over the course of the evening. The rest of the room is occupied by a large circle of beanbag chairs, a space that has been permanently earmarked for a game of spin-the-bottle.

MOONLIT BISTRO

To the west of the gym, there is a spacious weights room, but thanks to the illusion work of Adzuki Yamashita it's also a 1920s French Bistro at night with a splendid view of the Eiffel Tower. The exercise equipment has been masterfully illusioned into set dressing: hedges, planters, occupied tables in the restaurant. It's darker, more intimate, and a nice place to have a private moment with your date.

BATHROOMS

The bathrooms attached to the gym are also evocative of 1950s high school locker rooms, with salmon-pink tiling and fixtures. Not much going on in here, but it might be a good place to cry if you need to!

Only his sibling get to see Dio like this, which is to say, nervous. Agitated. He already knew that their arrival would be rocky, but a party? Today? The stars are sending them a warning.

"First off, we're going to want to try and control this situation," he's checking his tie for the fifth time as he rattles off information to Dafne. There's a drawing of an astrological chart taped to the mirror, and he's looking at it more than his outfit. "Don't. Because we can't."

Birdie's in a good if somewhat manic mood as she tries to ensure that everyone is having the best and most teenaged time possible. She's wearing a magenta-purple gown, has her hair in a vaguely 80s updo, and has her pixie wings out as an additional accessory.

VIBE CHECK: Curio

Curio slinks in vaguely alongside Moff, more of a lurking bodyguard than a normal date would be. However, his reflection tonight shows him in a fancy old-timey tuxedo and bowtie.

Beatrice, accompanied by Richard, is in a good, spritely mood which probably means she reads as confident and intense and maybe a little intimidating!

She decided to play into Birdie's theme a little bit and is going for the whole 'the unpopular girl with glasses got a makeover montage' vibe, meaning her curly hair is now sleek and she's wearing contacts instead of glasses.

Her dress is reminiscent of a beehive, all hexagonal and sparkly (see: reflective, for Curio), and she smells vaguely of honey.

VIBE CHECK: Moff

Moff asked Curio what the term 'dress code' means and was told to wear his flashiest outfit. So he wore this with his usual dark, round sunglasses. He also wore a small wall mirror around his neck because he knew Curio communicates through mirrors but didn't think to ask for clarification.

He flies up to the gymnasium rafters to Observe from above before maybe deciding to join the festivities.

VIBE CHECK: Barbie

Barbie used one of her wishes from Hyacinthe and had an exact replica of Margot's dress from [some award show idk]. Surprisingly some, she came with Broderick aka Mr I'm Not Going To Prom Best #1.

She is not the Official Photographer but be assured, she took enough photos of everything and everyone. This "fake prom" vibe is exactly what she has done before in the fae kingdom too but real.

VIBE CHECK: Hyacinthe

Hyacinthe shows up alone in a gold tuxedo, not because he wants to be here but because he promised Sharona he would. Love stuff bums him out but he's trying to be a good sport about it.

He mostly hangs out and lurks, and makes good use of his short distance teleportation powers by popping out of any awkward situations as soon as nobody's looking.

Stela's just straight-up cosplaying Jamie Lee Curtis's character in Prom Night, complete with a shaggy blonde wig. She snuck an ax prop under her dress by strapping it to her thigh, and is relieved (but also a little disappointed) to find that the bouncer idea was a flop. It's not as fun if there's no risk to it!!

She's a social butterfly tonight, flitting between groups to gab and boogying up to lurking wallflowers if she catches them looking a lil too longingly at the dance floor.

Sharona showed up with whoever else wanted to go to the Cheesecake Factory first.

She was feeling a little nervous, actually, but it's easy to hide nerves behind being bubbly so that's what she did! She overcompensated. She has a smile ready for everyone and is keen to spread compliments all around.

She's wearing a pink dress and her hair is in full waves. She has a matching velvet pink scrunchy around her wrist because she expects to get a little sweaty while dancing.

Darcy, of course, is in her element at a party though she's never checked a prom off of her list before. She shows up in a sequined zebra print suit, her hair as wild and curly as ever.

She's solo and would hang by her bff Hyacinthe, and also wherever the drinks were. It's never difficult to get her on the dance floor.

VIBE CHECK: Ophelia

Ophelia has never dressed up so much before and thinks it's pretty uncomfortable (even tho her heels are like, 1 inch), but she is happy with her dress. She just wore her curls down.

She came with "Mr I'm Not Going To Prom Best" #2, Byron. Her vibes are excited but also overwhelmed/not sure what to do or where to look first, because Birdie did such an amazing job and there's so much going on! She does not understand how people handle going to so many dances if they are all like this.

Broderick showed up with Barbie! As a (not-so) secretly vain person, Broderick made sure he looked good enough to be on Barbie's arm, and coordinated her pink dress with a "Ken" blue suit (he had a little pink boutonnière to match). He's never been to a Prom and is going by pure 80s American cinema on this one.

Broderick hadn't wanted to go to Prom, but he's very committed to ensuring Barbie has the best time (photos, dancing, the whole shebang). He's also shockingly a good dancer when he's convinced to take a spin. Otherwise, he'll be hanging back with his brother, Asher, or the wolves probably.

Byron is here, in Valentine's Day red with Ophelia! He even got a haircut! He has never been to a school dance, let alone a prom (very much not his thing!), so he looks like a deer in the headlights the whole time. He tries to make sure Ophelia has a good time, but he's clearly overwhelmed/overstimulated and spends most of his time hiding behind people he knows, not dancing at all.

Bracken rolls up stag & sporting a burgundy suit (with a dash less goin' to the chapel). He's in a decently good mood, a little quiet but that's just who he is~

When not on the dance floor, he'll prob attach himself to wolves&co. Mildly ?!?! about not being allowed to order cocktails. Aaand he'll v v likely duck out before the end to "check on the Nian Beast" (AKA try to check on it, be told to stop helicopter parenting, and not return to Prom.)

He is in a good mood, because as desired, he is control during Prom.

This place might be designed for dates, but it's also the perfect setting for a disembodied entity to hang out, bobbing languidly on the edge of a table, letting the moonlight glow through his opaque frame. When he hears footsteps behind him, he takes the opportunity to sigh a little and announce without looking up, "I was there when that was built, you know." He gestures at the illusory tower outside, "I was one of the first people who got to go all the way to the top." (Granted he was in fact already sans body by then, but the achievement is still there.)

"Shouldn'tve expected I'd be the only one here."
