beach day

WHO: Anyone who wants to come!
WHEN: Friday, February 2nd.
WHERE: HQ's Beach Room.
WHAT: TGIF! Everyone is invited to a Beach Day for a Beach Off. Maya finds a magical seashell.
WARNINGS: N/A

BEACH DAY
Cadmus Scantlebury has decided you've all earned a Beach Day to boost morale (Don't think too hard about any of the little hiccups you've experienced so far! It's fine, everything's fine!).

HQ's special Beach Room is completely indoors, but it seems very much like a real beach in every way—the artificial sun is bright and warm, the artificial ocean is clear and appears to go on forever, and there are even seagulls present that will try to steal your food out of your hand. All in all, it's a nice reprieve from the relentless grey cold of Toronto, and perhaps a good opportunity for residents that are usually nocturnal to enjoy some "daylight" without any ill effects.

Fruity summer cocktails, refreshments of all sorts, and BBQ is all provided. Relax, go for a swim, get drunk, eat too much, let loose, do whatever you want. Enjoy!

Who can resist the pull towards the shore to look for the prettiest shell? Not Maya. Or anyone that joins her. She picks up some seaglass and turns towards the person closest to her. "Oh, this is a good one."

"Oh!" Sharona holds out the sand dollar she found so they can exchange them for viewing. "I wonder if this was a mission someone was sent out on. Go forth and bring back only the prettiest shells for Beach Day!"

After exchanging Maya gently holds the sand dollar up to the light to appreciate how fragile it truly is. "That is definitely the kind of mission that I want to go on." She hadn't really intended to be very mission focused since her job was healing people, but with her medallion being what it was she wondered if she should sign up for some that had to do with lost items. "Have you signed up for any since the horses?"

"No! They've all sounded too intense," Sharona admitted as she finds another she'll and holds it out to Maya for inspecting. "But we'll probably have a lot of chances. Maybe we can go on one together."

Maya nodded her head. "Yea, I agree. I'd like to hear more of people's experiences before I go too. It would be nice to do one together." She inspects Sharona's shell, pleased with it. "This one definitely goes in the good pail," She decided.

Looking ahead a particular shine caught her eyes. "Ohh, that one is mine," She claimed before walking ahead of Sharona. She picked up the shell that seemed to just shine with a certain iridescence that the others lacked.

When she looked back to show Sharona she suddenly realized she was no longer in the pocket dimension...

Sharona was a step behind Maya the whole way until, very suddenly, her steps overcame the area where Maya should have been.

But she wasn't, and Sharona was suddenly quite alone.

"Maya?" she asked allowed, toeing the sand where Maya should have been.

When there was no answer, she called her name again, and again, with increasing panic as she started pacing the shoreline.

Enter: Someone who really doesn't like hearing his buddies' names called out in that particular pitch and urgency.

He skitters to a stop beside Sharona and shoots her a questioning look because asking what wrong seems redundant. What's wrong!!

"Maya?? Is gone??"

The confusion and panic with which she speaks suggests that she should very much NOT be gone and that her being gone is BAD.

"She was here! She was RIGHT HERE and now she's!! Gone!!"

Lots of hand gestures.

Bracken hand gestures back, mostly uselessly, but at the same time he's sniffing with that supernose of his. Her trail just kind of evaporates. It's fucked up.

"Gone-gone," he confirms, extremely uncomfortable with this turn of events. "Gone-gone-gone." Maybe that was excessive.

Having watched the two get increasing animated in a bad way, from further back from the shore, Broderick draws closer. Worried. "What's going on?"

Standing beside Sharona and worrying about Maya, it's easy in the moment to forget that not everyone in Bracken's life right now is a wolf — that's why his first stab at explaining is just a pointed sniff of the air, as if to say Smell for yourself.

But... right. Broderick wouldn't be able to tell that Maya's trail wanders along the beach and then simply ends.

"Maya was right here, then not." He repeats Sharona's words as he drags a circle in the sand with one of his toes like knowing the specific spot will be helpful, then raises his brows to Broderick. The guy's nose is shit but he, allegedly, has access to other skills neither shifter does. Bracken lets himself hope. "Magic?"

Broderick gets very focused, narrow eyed and alert at this very alarming news. He may not be able to scent things, but magic always leaves traces. "Magic," he agrees, and it's like he can see the remains of something where Maya had likely just been. "It leaves a signature, I can sense it."

Brow furrowed, he can't see any object or event that would be to blame but says decidedly: "it's not malicious, at least."
